Locating Areas And Assets

When you have configured the Browse window to display the hierarchies and links you require, you can use it to find objects and move around the FM Model. Selecting any object displayed in the window and then choosing Locate from the pop-up menu finds the selected object, opens the DGN in which it is located and automatically zooms in on the object.

To locate an area in a design

In either the Browse window or Objects window, right-click an area and choose Locate.
The DGN containing the selected area opens and the window zooms in on the part of the DGN containing the selected area.

To locate a room

  1. In the Room Book dialog box, navigate to the desired room using the arrow or Go To command buttons.

  2. Click Locate Room.
The screen view pans and zooms until the selected room is visible. If the room is in another DGN, that file is retrieved and opened.

If the object located is an asset, it is outlined with a circle; if the object is an area, it is highlighted. The color and style of the circle and the degree of zoom are user configurable (see Defining How Bentley Facilities Planner Zooms in on Objects ). Locate Object works only on a single element and displays it even if their class is not currently displayed.

You can also use the Room Book dialog box (or just Room Book, for short) to locate rooms and the assets in them. The assets that appear in the Room Book dialog box are those asset classes which have a link to the room.

The Room Book dialog box opens when you right-click a Building, Floor or Room inside one of Bentley Facilities Planner's windows or dialog boxes then choose Room Book from the pop-up menu. Room Book also opens when you right-click an area outline in the DGN, then choose Room Book from the pop-up menu or you can just right click inside Browse Dialog on required Room and Select Room Book option

If a floor or building is selected, the Room Book dialog box opens displaying the properties and contents of the first room defined in that floor or building. Using the navigation buttons, you can then move through all the rooms contained in that floor or building. If a room is selected, the Room Book dialog box opens displaying the properties and contents of that room.

To locate an asset in a specific room

  1. Open the Browse window (Planner > Browse).

  2. Expand the Location tree until you find the area containing the asset you want to locate.

  3. Right-click the area and choose Room Book.
Room Book opens displaying the contents of the selected room.

  4. Right-click on an asset in the list box and choose Locate.
The DGN containing the selected area opens and the window zooms in on the selected asset.
