Displaying Assets

Assets are not stored in DGNs, but are stored in the database (along with location and attribution information) and then temporarily drawn in the DGNs on request. You can have assets display automatically whenever a DGN is opened, or you can manually control the display of assets using the Asset Display dialog box.

Note: When changes are made to the Asset Display dialog box (either Asset class changes or display filter changes), Use as Autodisplay automatically turns off. This prevents you from unintentionally changing the Autodisplay settings. The changes are saved until you reopen the dialog box.

You can set up Bentley Facilities Planner so that certain classes of assets display automatically when you open a DGN.

To manually display assets

  1. Do one of the following:
Use the Place Fence tool to place a fence around the area containing the assets you want to display.
    or
Use the Element Selection tool to select a particular area, or create a selection set, containing the assets you want to display.
    or
Use the Window Area view control to zoom in to the section of the design containing the assets you want to display.
Note:Note: If no fence or selection set is active, the view window will serve as the boundary within which to display assets. That is, the only assets that will display are those that fall within the area visible in the view window. To display all assets, you may have to zoom out until the entire model is visible within the view window.
  2. Open the Asset Display dialog box (Planner > Display > Asset Display).

  3. In the dialog box's list box, select one or more classes of assets to display.
  4. Set Display Filter to Detailed, Sparse, or Model.
  5. Click Apply.
The assets display in the view window, or if applicable, within the active fence or selection set only.

To hide assets from display

  1. Repeat steps 1 and 2 of the previous procedure.
  2. In the Asset Display dialog box's list box, deselect one or more of the currently selected asset classes.
  3. Click Apply.
Those assets whose classes you just deselected in the Asset Display dialog box are removed from view.

To configure the automatic display of certain asset classes

  1. Open the Asset Display dialog box (Planner > Display > Asset Display).
  2. Select a display filter, and also select the asset classes you want to automatically display.
  3. Turn on Use as Autodisplay.

  4. Click Apply, then click Cancel.
The view is updated to display the selected classes of assets, and the next time you open a DGN, the selected asset classes will display automatically. You can open the Asset Display dialog box again to add or remove assets from the list of assets to automatically display.

Display filter options

The way in which assets such as items of IT Equipment and Furniture display is user configurable. In the demonstration FM Model, they can be viewed at three levels of detail. The amount of information displayed in each mode is governed by the amount of detail drawn in the cell graphics for the assets in question.

Displaying labels next to areas and assets

If you so choose, you can display labels next to your areas and assets. Similar to displaying assets, you can either display labels manually as needed, or you can configure them to be auto-displayed whenever the label's area or asset is also being displayed.
