To Create an Area in Planner

    1. Using MicroStation tools, draw a closed shape for each outline the area may have and a closed shape for every hole (for example: column, atrium).

    2. From the Planner menu, choose Area > Create.
      The Create Area wizard opens.

    3. From the list box, select the area instance class and click Next.
The Modify Instance screen opens for the selected object.

    4. In the Attributes window, modify any editable attributes.

    5. Click Next.
      The Attach/Detach Shapes screen opens

    6. In the design file, identify the shape you want to attach to the area, then click Next.

    7. Do one of the following:

At this point, if you are finished creating the area, click Finished.
      or
To enter a general deduction for any unusable space in the area, click Next.
The area is created and the Calculation screen displays. Values for Raw, Gross and Net areas are calculated and displayed automatically

    8. If desired, turn on Generalized Deduction, enter a percentage, then press the <Tab> key.

Turn on Calculation Details to view the deduction details.

The gross area calculation allows for construction areas between rooms, but in many cases, there may also be structural columns, or piers inside the room. You can allow for this by applying a generalized deduction to the room

    9. Do one of the following:

At this point, if you are finished, click Finish.
      or
To link the area to other objects, click Next.
      The Connections screen opens

    10. Classification window.
This step is only necessary, or possible, if the area you are creating is a room. (For more information, see To classify an area.)

    11. To search for items to link to the instance, click Find or Navigate.

    12. Once you find the object you want to link to the instance, drag and drop the object into the Objects list box.

    13. When you are finished linking objects, click Finish
