Creating new Catalog Sub Group Catalog in OpenBuildings Designer

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Designer
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Datasets
      Subarea: Catalog

    Problem

How can I manage the Catalog Sub Grouping in a Hybrid Configuration Setup?

    Solution

The Catalog Sub Grouping is controlled by the CatalogTypeGroups.xml file in the DataGroupSystem folder in the Dataset.

If this file is moved to the managed/shared Dataset/Standard, then the Sub-grouping can be managed/shared as well.

While doing this, please note the following:

1.There must be only one instance of this file. That can be either the delivered Dataset (by default), or any other shared location.

2.When this file is moved to another location, it must be made sure that the projects using that Dataset must have access to the CatalogTypeGroups.xml file.

3.You can keep the CatalogTypeGroups.xml file at any of the location the DG_PATH variable points at. It can also be in a shared location or ProjectWise folder.
N.B: The only point to remember would be that the DG_PATH must point to that folder to read the definition of the groups.

4.You may choose to move that file to your Project Specific dataset. However, you would have to make sure that all the other projects that are using the dataset where the file is not there anymore, have a copy in their project specific datasets.
