Glazing Data - Changes not affecting results

    Overview

On the Data Managers > Materials menu, under Windows, you can find a comprehensive array of glazing data that is used by the various OpenBuildings Energy Simulator calculations.

    Method

While we would strongly suggest filling in all the data for each glazing type, you should recognise that the menu contains disparate data in places, some of which is used by specific calculations/simulations only.

For example, the Solar Gain Factors are used solely for steady state calculations such as CIBSE Gain:

    • The U value, light transmission, shading coefficient and SHGC figures should all be obtained from the glazing manufacturer. Bentley Systems Ltd cannot provide these figures.

    • Likewise for the Solar Gain Factors, however if the glazing manufacturer is unable to provide Solar Gain Factors, advice on computing these can be found in this wiki article.

Note: If you wish to modify glazing data to incorporate a blind for all steady state calculations (except PartL) then you must modify the Solar Gain Factors accordingly.

Some detailed information about light transmission can be found here.

Some detailed information on the relation between Shading coefficients and SHGC can be found here.
