BRUKL Report - Internal Surfaces in U-Value check

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Energy Simulator
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Part L
      Subarea: N/A

    Overview

The SBEM calculation engine performs a comprehensive check on U-Values for external and internal surfaces. Internal surfaces can and will appear on the Compliance Report.

    Method

An internal surface can be flagged as "Maximum value" surface under the following conditions:

    • Temperature differential to the connected zone is considered too high. For e.g. Current zone is set at 21°C and temperature on other side set at 5°C

Using the Project Tree, examine the room properties and compare the zone to surrounding zones.

    • Partition surface is not connected to another zone

Using the Project Tree, examine the Surface properties and check the partition connection.

    • Current zone is defined with HVAC and connected zone has no HVAC defined

From within PartL, check that your HVAC is specified correctly for each zone

    • U-value of surface fails the U-value check

The following figures are used for the reference building. You should ensure your fabric data is within these limits.

Note that the U-Value checks are area weighted.

The Data Reflection report is a useful debug tool for examining what data is passed into the SBEM calculation.
