    Tracing Roof Geometry

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Energy Simulator
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Building Modelling
      Subarea: N/A

    Overview

In the Roof menu, there are two methods of tracing your roof segments - 3D points in active coordinate system, or 2D points on plan view.

    Method

    • 2D points  - Tracing over roof plan drawings:

It is suggested that the 2D method of tracing is predominantly used:

This will allow you to easily trace the roof sections over the roof plans, and elevate sections accordingly.

    • 3D points - Tracing complex geometry

Tracing in 3D can be very useful for more complex geometry, such as vertical roof sections.

It will allow you to trace in 3D by using AccuDraw, or simply snapping to relevant points, for example as below:

Finally please always ensure to Setup your roof sections once drawn:

Should you require information on how to model your roof, elevate points, or elevate edges, please find detailed guidance here.
