Adapting Room Schedules to COVID-19 requirements in OpenBuildings Energy Simulator

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Energy Simulator
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Area: Social Distancing

    Overview

Daily, weekly and annual schedules are used by OpenBuildings Energy Simulator to control aspects such as occupancy times, lighting on/off times, ventilation operation time, and heat gain times. These schedules can be created and edited in the Schedules Manager to incorporate changes to building operation under COVID-19 recommendations.

    Method

Under the Data Managers Tab, you will find the Schedules Manager:

On the left, an expansive list of typical schedules is included, under categories of Day schedules, Week schedules and year schedules. Expanding and selecting one of these schedules will display the related properties on the right:

Any of these can be edited, or new schedules can be created. To do so, we recommend copying the most similar schedule

Once copied, the new schedule will appear at the bottom of the list. You can then simply double-click on it to rename it:

For Day Schedules, the data on the top right can be altered. (Note that the Weekly and Yearly data below it will be irrelevant so it is greyed out).

For example, should there be a need for staggered operating times, then the hourly percentage can be changed accordingly.

Similarly, for weekly schedules each day of the week can be altered, for example as below:

For yearly Schedules, weekly blocks can be used to build up the whole year. This may be useful to simulate extended school holidays, for example:

Once entered, these schedules will be available in the applicable field within your room data, for example you could create and select custom Yearly occupancy profiles as below:
