How do I access GC tools from OpenBuildings Designer?

    Product(s): GenerativeComponents
    Version(s): CONNECT Edition
    Area: Installation
    Subarea: N/A

    Problem

I currently have OpenBuildings Designer CONNECT Edition installed but I don't see any GenerativeComponents tools.  How do I access them?

    Solution

In CONNECT Edition, GenerativeComponents is a "Companion Feature" of AECOsim/OpenBuildings and is installed as such. You can find more information in these wikis:

CONNECT Edition - Why are there "Companion" products displayed in the installer dialog?

    Installing OpenBuildings Designer

When you install OpenBuildings Designer and select the GenerativeComponents Companion Feature, the GC tools are only available when using the dedicated shortcut as shown here:

This shortcut includes a -wsGC=1 switch which is what loads the GC tools and workspace data, which in turn enables the Computational Design workflow. Without that you are simply loading OpenBuildings Designer as-is.

If you did not choose the GenerativeComponents Companion Feature when you installed OpenBuildings Designer, you can do so by following the steps outlined here.
