Managing Energy Simulator Projects on a Shared Server

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Energy Simulator
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Environment: N/A
      Area: General Information
      Subarea: N/A

    Overview

This article details how Workspaces and Worksets can be used to create and share projects within your own custom Design folder location on a shared server.

Note: An overview of Workspaces and Worksets can be found in this article.

    Method

        1. Create Shared Workspace

Create a new Workspace by selecting the dropdown > Create Workspace.

Enter the Workspace name, for example Shared Energy Simulator Projects:

Select Browse on Root Folder location, and set to the shared server location:

        2. Create a new Workset

To create a new project, select your Shared Energy Simulator Projects Workspace, and from the Workset pull-down select Create New WorkSet. Give the Workset a name and change the Root Directory to the location of your design folder:

        3. Create the DGN model

Create your building model in the new Workset by clicking on New File. The DGN must be located within the Workset selected. Do not Browse to an alternate location. Simply enter a name and click OK.

The software will now open your new project.

Then, for other users on other machines who also wish to access the same project, start OpenBuildings Energy Simulator and do as follows:

    1. Create Workspace
From the WorkSpace pull-down select Create New WorkSpace, give it the exact same name as above (eg Shared Energy Simulator Projects -  the name must match exactly) and set the Root Directory to the same shared server location. (Essentially this is creating a configuration file on the local drive for the WorkSpace created previously).

    2. Close OpenBuildings Energy Simulator.

    3. Reopen OpenBuildings Energy Simulator and select the Shared Energy Simulator Projects Workspace. You will then be able to select the related Worksets:
