    Condensation Risk Analysis

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Energy Simulator
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Data Managers
      Subarea: Materials

    Overview

Condensation risk often needs to be assessed prior to selection of a buildings construction types.

    Method

Condensation risk is automatically calculated for each construction in Materials Manager. To view the condensation analysis firstly select the surface in question, for example:

Then, scroll down to the Condensation and CTS dropdown.

Upon Expanding this, two calculations can be performed:

    • Show CTS
Thermal Storage capacity - CTS graph values are derived through a complicated process that examines the material properties that make up each construction. For the purposes of cooling, the U-value of a construction is also used (for heating, only the U-value is used and not CTS values). The weight of a construction (also derived from material properties) also plays a role in determining the thermal storage characteristics of a space.

    • Show Condensation
When a construction is selected, a condensation calculation is made, and a scaled graph of the construction is displayed, showing the actual temperature distribution and the dew point temperature distribution. If the dew point line touches or crosses the actual temperature line, then condensation will occur.
