    Overview

This article outlines how to place rooflights or roof openings in an Energy Simulator model.

    Method

To add roof lights or openings on a Roof in a Dgn model, you would require to go to the Roof modeler ribbon of Energy Simulator and then to Design roof option. This option allows you to edit the roof section where you will find “ Add Opening” tool to introduce Roof lights or openings on your existing Roof. See below:

After selecting the “ Add Opening” tool, a material selection window will pop-up asking you to select proper material for the opening. You have to select the suitable material by clicking on the drop-down at the right side of the hidden list and then choosing the suitable fabric.

Once the preferred material or fabric is selected for roof lights, you will need to trace the roof lights on the roof by plotting the area of Roof light with the help of Accudraw pointer. We recommend you to Draw the opening from the top view keeping the Accusnap toggled ON to avoid misplacement of edges of the opening.

Please note that if you find it difficult to see your roof plan it is recommended to alter your View type, for example to Transparent:

Once traced, to ensure the surfaces are created in the relevant rooms below please ensure to Setup roof:
