    Daylight Simulation Room Contours

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Energy Simulator
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Area: Dynamic Simulation
      Subarea: Daylight simulation

    Overview

Daylight contours can be helpful in visualizing the effect of daylight factors in a room or in an energy model.

    Method

To setup daylight contours you first need to calculate Daylight Factors as described in the wiki article here.  After this, go to Results tab and click on the Show These Contours button as shown below:

Then, go to Contours tab and select the room and simulation with which you want to set up contours. A preview of the contours will be displayed on the right, and below that you will see Settings area allowing you to create you own contour scale by providing colour and value according to your preference. See below:

To do so, deselect Auto scale and create a new scale by inputting values manually into the scale, and click on Apply. New contours will be created based on the new values. If you opt for the Auto scale option, the software will disregard the manual scale that you have set up and create standard contours according to the daylight factors.

The contours will then be displayed in the relevant rooms as shown below. (You may find Wireframe view the most effective to display these).

Further, if you like to visualize the effects of daylight in a room, refer to the article here for guidance.
