Using a Text Favorite to Annotate Elements with DataGroup Properties

      Product: OpenBuildings Designer
      Version: CONNECT Edition
      Area: Annotation
    Subarea DataGroup Properties

    The Situation
Do you repeatedly find yourself annotating elements with data that has already been placed on the element as a DataGroup property?

    Solution

Save time using text favorites to alleviate the task of annotating elements with DataGroup properties.

Text favorites are pieces of text that have been saved to a “favorites” list, allowing them to easily be reused without having to repeatedly type them in. Create and edit text favorites by means of text fields based on DataGroup properties, to speed the placement of annotations in your designs.

    Steps:

It is recommended that you create a Text Favorite in a DgnLib, such as your Text Styles DgnLib.  You will also need to have elements with the DataGroup Properties present in the file.

    1. In the Text Editor window, select Insert Text Field.
      1. Set the Field Type to Element Properties and select an element in the model that has the DataGroup properties you are planning to use in your text Favorite.
      2. The Field Editor will open. From the Properties list box, select the desired DataGroup property.
      3. (Optional) In the property formatter that lists next to the Properties list box, change the display properties.
      4. Click Accept.
    2. (Optional) Add desired text to prefix or suffix the field in the editing box.
    3. Right-click on the text field and select Save Text Favorite. The new Text Favorite is saved.
    4. In the Text Editor window, select Manage Text Favorites from the Insert Favorite drop-down.
    5. Rename the new Text Favorite.
    6. (Optional) From the Text Styles drop-down list, select the desired text style to be applied to the favorite.
    7. Click Save.

The Text Favorite is saved and ready to be used.
