Creating Leader Lines for DataGroup Annotations

      Product: OpenBuildings Designer
      Version: CONNECT Edition
      Area: Annotation
    Subarea: Drawing Rules; Leader Lines

    The Situation

Are you manually adding leaders to DataGroup annotations?

    Solution

Save time annotating drawings by automatically generating leader lines on your DataGroup annotations.

Use the Create Leader Line option on the DataGroup Annotation rule to automatically generate leaders when the annotation is first generated or when it is moved away from the annotated object.

    Steps:

    1. Turn on Create Leader Line in the Drawing Rule.
    2. Set the desired Level and Symbology for the leader line.
    3. (Optional) If a terminator or gap is needed on the leader line, create a custom line style and select it for the line style symbology.
    4. Save and Update the Drawing Rule.

The line styles 'Leader with Arrow' and 'Leader with Dot' used in the video can be found in the line style resource files found here. They should be placed in the Standards/Symb folder in either the WorkSet, WorkSpace, or your company dataset.

Note: The line styles above were designed to work with the drawing annotation scale, so you should set  the Line Style Scale in the Model Properties of the drawing to Annotation Scale. This is typically my default as it works well for centerlines also.
