    Using Room Mapping Facility

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Energy Simulator
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Environment: N/A
      Area: Building Modelling
      Subarea: N/A

    Overview

The Room Mapping facility allows you to assign various room types according to calculations such as ASHRAE and Part L.

    Method

Energy Simulator comes with its own room types which you specify in each Rooms properties. However, prescriptive calculations such as PartL and ASHRAE also have their own specific room types.

The software will automatically match the closest room type for you, however you can alter these manually should you need, as below:

    •  Right-click on any of the rooms from the project tree of your model opened in energy Simulator
    •  Go to properties of the room
    •  From the properties section, go to the Room mapping option as below

    • On the leftmost column, certain standards are listed.

    •  From the Building type column, you would be able to choose the preferred type of building for which you want to assess the built environment. Various options such as Correctional facilities, Educational Facilities, Courtroom, Office room etc. are available in the list.

    • From the room type option available at the rightmost section, you will be able to select certain preloaded rooms based on the building type you have chosen in the previous column. For example, by choosing Building type as a Correctional Facility, you would be able to assign your room as any of the room types possible (Guardroom, booking area, Dayroom etc.) to have in that building.

    •  You can assess the rooms as per Part L as well, the process of assigning Building types and room types remain the same. See below:
