 Product(s):OpenBuildings Designer
 Version(s):CONNECT Edition
 Area:Annotation

Problem Description

I want to place element annotation in my drawing, for example on a beam. When doing this I receive the message: "ERROR !!! Unable to find active cell". How do I create a new annotation cell for existing DataGroup elements?

Steps to Accomplish

Please follow the below steps through which you can annotate any DataGroup element (in this case we have used a steel beam).

  1. First, from the Drawing tab click on the Element Annotation dropdown and select the “Manage Annotation Cells” tool.

  1. Then after the Manage Annotation Cells dialog box opens select the “Create New Cell Model” option.

  1. Next, create a new cell with the required parameters and click on OK.

  1. After creating the new cell, select the DataGroup type of the element which you want to annotate along with its DataGroup properties (in this case Section Name is used).
Then click on Place Text in order to place the annotation text in the model and click on the Close button.

  1. Once back in your DGN file, open the Annotation Tool Settings dialog and select Beams > Beam | Steel.

  1. Next, select the new cell you created above and click on the Apply button.

  1. Finally, when you annotate a beam using the Element Annotation tool you will see that the Section Name is displayed.
