    OpenBuildings Speedikon Installation and Configuration

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Speedikon
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition Updates
      Area: Installation
      Subarea: N/A

First, carefully read the installation and configuration instructions in the Readme and the Forum.

    Required Steps

    1. Download the installation file from the Software Downloads portal or update an existing OpenBuildings Speedikon installation via the CONNECTION client. Please select your Language and then click on [Apply].
Run the installation file. The OpenBuildings Speedikon installer opens. An internet connection is required for direct installation. This procedure is recommended for the installation of a small number of workstations. For an existing OpenBuildings Speedikon installation, the message "This selection will upgrade the previous version of the product." appears.

    2. Alternatively, create a deployment image. This procedure is recommended for installing many workstations or if the workstation has limited internet access. Explanations are available in the help and communities.

    3. Clicking on the ? question mark opens the readme file.

    4. As a companion application, you can also install Bentley LumenRT Designer CONNECT Edition Update 14 free of cost. LumenRT Designer allows you to create engaging visualizations quickly and easily. As a Speedikon user with an active Bentley contract, you can also install and use OpenBuildings Designer at no cost. Download OpenBuildings Designer separately via Software Downloads and install as desired.

    5. To read the End-User Licensing Agreement (EULA), click the License Agreement link. The End-User Licensing Agreement opens in a web browser.
Turn on the I accept the End User License Agreement check box if you understand and agree to the License Agreement Terms and Conditions. Note that agreeing to the license agreement is required in order to install the product. Turning on the check box displays the Install button at the bottom of the wizard.

    6. Click the Configure button. The installation directory for the program is displayed. We recommend not to change the path.

    7. Click on Next. Now you can set up the configuration.

    8. We recommend choosing the Custom Configuration (plus Delivered Configuration). When updating an OpenBuildings Speedikon installation, please select the identical directories as the existing installation.

    9. The Delivered Configuration path defaults to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenBuildings CONNECT Edition. This is where Bentley installs files that belong to the dataset and workspace. You can choose the installation directory of the delivered configuration; it can be local or on a server. Usually a local directory is chosen.

If you are upgrading the installation and had selected the custom configuration in the existing installation, please also select the custom configuration option when upgrading. The paths used will then be entered automatically.

If you are installing OpenBuildings Speedikon and OpenBuildings Designer on the same workstation, the following options are available when using the custom configuration:

      - Option 1: OpenBuildings Speedikon and OpenBuildings Designer use the same directory for custom configuration. The used Workspaces and Worksets from both products are located exclusively in the custom configuration directory. In this case, the deployed configuration folder can also be the same for Speedikon and OBD.

      - Option 2: OpenBuildings Speedikon and OpenBuildings Designer use different directories for the custom configuration or the used Workspaces and Worksets of Speedikon and OBD are in different directories. In this case, be sure to select different folders for the delivered configuration of Speedikon and OBD during installation. Change the path of the delivered configuration of Speedikon, e.g., to C:\ProgramData\Bentley\OpenBuildings Speedikon.

    10. You can define the path for the Custom Configuration. The custom configuration can be done via a remote path to the share, e.g. \\Server\Freigabe\OBS_UserConfig or via a local path to the share, g. C:\OBS_UserConfig. You should set the path as desired right during the installation. In the Custom Configuration directory, you will later copy or save your customized workspaces and your Speedikon company standards.

    11. Click on Next. On the installation page Features, select the options. It is best to leave all the check marks set.

    12. Click on Done. The first installation page opens again.

    13. Install OpenBuildings Speedikon by clicking Install.

    14. Double-click the Speedikon icon on your desktop.

    15. At the first start a message appears once, which you need to confirm with OK. "The product’s std folder needs to be linked to a localized product dataset. Press the OK button and allow Speedm.exe to make this change on your computer." Administrator rights are required for this. You can bypass this message via script if the users do not have administrator rights.

This operation links the dataset to the std folder of the Speedikon installation directory and creates the Speedikon folder in the Custom configuration directory or if this is not defined in the delivered configuration directory.
    16. If you want to use your own Speedikon company standard, open the Speedikon folder in the custom configuration directory, or if it is not defined in the delivered configuration directory. Create the folder std there. If not, continue with step 22.

    17. In the std folder, create the main folder or, in the case of multiple company standards, a folder with the desired name. Copy your Speedikon company standard into this folder.

    18. Check whether your company standard contains the file standard.d01 in the def folder. If so, delete this file. Create a new file standard.d01 later. Info about this can be found here.

    19. Please note that in Speedikon the files in the company standard always have priority over the installed system files. If you haven't updated your company standard in a while, take this opportunity to bring it up to date.

    20. If you are using a user.ini, it will be read from there. If you are switching from speedikon V8i, please also update your user.ini file.

    21. If you want to use the User Manager, start it from the OpenBuildings Speedikon Utilities Dashboard. This can be found in the Windows Start Menu under OpenBuildings Speedikon.

    22. Create the desired users and assign the appropriate rights. Import the company standard subfolders with the Import button. Select the desired company standard. The exact procedure is described here.

    23. In addition to the Speedikon company standard, you should also create a MicroStation Workspace and WorkSet in the Custom Configuration directory in the WorkSpaces folder. This is where you store your customized MicroStation files, e.g. cell libraries, dgnlibs, etc.

    24. The path of the custom configuration is stored in the cfg file. The file is in the delivered configuration directory. The directory of the delivered configuration is defined in the msdir.cfg file. An already prepared ConfigurationSetup.cfg can also be copied there by script at the end of the installation.

The relevant entries in the ConfigurationSetup.cfg file can be, for example, as follows:

_USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION=C:/OBS UserConfig/ (path of the custom configuration)

      _USTN_CONFIGURATION = $(_USTN_CUSTOM_CONFIGURATION) or _USTN_CONFIGURATION = C:/OBS UserConfig/ (path of custom configuration)

    25. Start OpenBuildings Speedikon MicroStation from the Windows Start Menu.

    26. Create a new WorkSpace.

    27. You can freely assign the name. Check that this is created in your configuration directory.

    28. Now create a WorkSet in this workspace. You can also freely assign the WorkSet name.

    29. If you have used customized MicroStation files in your workspace so far, copy them into your newly created workspace. Please make sure to create printer driver configuration files in the pltcfg folder again in CONNECT Edition.

    30. Start Speedikon. Press the F6 key and select the OpenBuildings Speedikon tab.

    31. Select the Workspace and the WorkSet and confirm with Apply.

    32. Click Administration Center > User Manager. The selected company standard should be set.

    33. Close Speedikon and restart it.

    34. When you start Speedikon Update 3 for the first time, the following message appears:

    35. Please follow the instructions and activate the option Execute Startup Script under the preferences. The change in the setting of the Execute Startup Script option is saved in the Personal.upf file in the prefs folder. The prefs folder is usually located at: C:\Users\FirstName.LastName\AppData\Local\Bentley\OpenBuildingsSpeedikon\10.0.0\prefs

Good luck and enjoy working with OpenBuildings Speedikon!
