AECOsim Building Designer crashes

Problem Description

After opening a DGN file AECOsim Building Designer will crash with an exception error.

If the workspace and dataset is pointing to a correct location and there is no configuration issue, then this error may be related to one of *.rul files in the dataset. 

Steps to Resolve

1. Check the dataset location and navigate to the folder where the *.rul files have been stored. For the installed workspace it will be available under:
   i. C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i Ss6\WorkSpace\BuildingDatasets\<dataset name>\rules
   ii. C:\ProgramData\Bentley\AECOsimBuildingDesigner V8i Ss6\WorkSpace\Projects\BuildingExamples\<project name>\support\dataset\rules
   
   If you are in ProjectWise managed workspace, there are specific variables that can point you to *.rul file folder. These variables specify the name and location of the file that stores the application's drawing rules.
   
   ATFFILE_DRAWINGRULES = $(PROJ_DATASET)rules/Architectural.rul
   HVACFILE_DRAWINGRULES = $(PROJ_DATASET)rules/Mechanical.rul
   STFFILE_DRAWINGRULES = $(PROJ_DATASET)rules/Structural.rul
   STFFILE_MODELSTYLES = $(PROJ_DATASET)rules/StructuralAnnotation.rul
   
   
2. Check the size of each *.rul file and try to open it with Notepad. If any file size appears to be 0kb or 0bytes then there is possibility that this file is corrupted.
3. Replace the file with the correct version - you can always use the installed workspace for files in such cases.
4. Test again by reopening the DGN file(s).
