With the release of OpenBuildings Update 9 it is now possible to save and store rules in additional files stored in locations specified by the following new configuration variables:
To create a new rule file at the WorkSpace or WorkSet level, one of the delivered rule files, Architectural.rul, Mechanical.rul or Structural.rul, should be copied from the /Rules folder in the regional dataset to the /Standards/Rules folder in the WorkSpace or WorkSet. This file can be renamed (optional). The appropriate variable can then be defined by users in the WorkSpace and WorkSet configuration files to point to the new rule file.
Once the new rule file is in place custom rules can be added in the Set Reference Presentation dialog, or using the Structural Rules or Mechanical Rules dialogs from the Backstage > Settings > Building. Delivered rules can be copied, renamed, and modified and then saved in the new location of your choice. However, it is not possible to have rules with the same name in multiple rule files. Therefore, you may want to create a naming convention that identifies the source of the rule; e.g., company initials, or prefixes such as WkSpace and WkSet. See video.
Rules can then be applied from any of the *.rul files at the Organization, Workspace and/or WorkSet level.
