    How to improve speed of Energy Simulator

    Overview

    If you find a delay when performing some operations (for instance when modelling large buildings), this is usually due to the complexity of the OpenBuildings Energy Simulator software and the related model, however there are simple measures you can take to improve this.

    Method

     Any delays/lags can be mitigated by following the guidance below:

    • View Windows - close unnecessary view windows when modelling your building. Views can be toggled on/off as below:



    • View type - Select a simple view type that will not require excessive processing  - eg Wireframe:


    • Show Floor Only - When working on a large building model, show only the relevant floor you wish to work on:


    • If possible, save Workspace and Workset locally to your machine.

    • Proper modelling techniques - avoid overly intricate models and unnecessary additional surfaces, as detailed in the following article:
