How to report on parametric cell values

      Product(s): OpenBuildings Designer
      Version(s): CONNECT Edition
      Area:  Import/Export
      Subarea:  Reports

    Problem

I've created a parametric cell that uses Variations to control both predefined and calculated values. Is there any way to generate a report that includes those values for the instances I've placed in my DGN file?

    Solution

If your report can use the predefine variable values for each Variation rather than being dynamically “read” from the cells placed in a DGN file, you can generate a report on those values by using Item Types:

    1. Open the Cell Library containing your Parametric Cell and navigate to the applicable Model:

    2. Open the Item Types dialog from the Data/Reporting, Attach or Content tabs, or use the Search Ribbon field:

    3. Select the desired Item Type Library (Parametric Cell in this example) or create a new one if needed:

    4. Create a new Item Type (Triangle in this example), new Property Definitions for each variable to be used in your Report, assign a Default Value to each, then click on the Save button:

    5. From the Constraints tab open the Variables dialog and select your Item Type:

    6. Click on each Variation and enter the required Item Type values:

    7. When a Variation of your Parametric Cell is placed within a DGN file its associated Item Property Definition values are also included:

    8. These Item properties can then be used by the Reports tool, and a table placed in the file:
