Building Modelling

Overview

Building models in GBXML format can easily be imported directly into OpenBuildings Energy Simulator.

Method

Before proceeding to export your GBXML from your BIM software, please ensure that it has been set up in a manner that can be understood from an energy model perspective - for example each room must be defined as a space, and surrounded on all sides by surfaces; e.g., walls, windows, floor, roofs/ceilings.

Only then will it be interpreted appropriately upon import - please note that achieving this is often an iterative process.

When your model has been set up as required, export from the other software.

Start OpenBuildings Energy Simulator, and create a new WorkSet. Create your DGN model within that WorkSet.

Select File in the top left corner, and then Import. GBXML can be found as below:

Navigate to your GBXML file and select OK.

The Analytical Space Model menu will open - this will allow you to specify the building properties via the tabs shown below. Address any items highlighted in red particularly.
Once the required details have been entered select Apply, and then Close:

This will complete the import and you can now begin working with your energy model.
