How to create a custom Catalog Item that can be copied to another Catalog Type

Problem Description

We often see that when creating custom catalogs some will use the primary XML file to create the Catalog Item. For example, while creating a custom wall the main Wall.xml file is been used:


So, it becomes difficult to copy those items to another Catalog Type when it is required.

Steps to Resolve

To avoid such a scenario create a new XML file for those custom Catalog Items using the ‘Create a new DataGroup File’ button as shown in this image:



Next, when the ‘New DataGroup File’ window opens give it a new name (here we used ’test_new_wall’) then save the file:



After doing so go to another Catalog Type where you want to copy this same Catalog Item. There, right-click on it to open a dropdown menu from where you can choose ‘New Catalog Item’:



After the ‘New Catalog Item’ window pops up, under the file section pick the new XML file (in this example ‘test_new_wall.xml’), then click on ‘OK’,
