We are using the Element Annotation tool to annotate DataGroup based elements, but the Annotation Settings dialog allows limited control over the leader line and doesn't quite suit our requirements.
Is there any way to annotate DataGroup properties while gaining better control over how the leader line is generated?
Yes, you can accomplish this by using the Place Note tool, available in the Common Tools and Text tool groups or by typing "place note" in the Ribbon Bar.
Once the tool is launched:
1. From the Text dialog choose the Insert Field option, and in the Place Note dialog enable the Association locks:
2. Choose the desired Dimension Style to set the Leader options along with the applicable placement and orientation settings:
3. Next, choose Element Properties from the drop-down list and click on the OK button, then select the element to be annotated:
4. Finally, from the Fields Editor dialog choose the desired DataGroup property and place your annotated property value with the desired leader settings:
