How to embed fonts when printing

Problem

Our company's visual identity includes special fonts that need to be included in Prints. I want to make sure that PDFs opened on other machines will show the same, even if fonts are not installed there.
We know a common workaround is to use the Rasterize option, but in this case it is impossible due to technical requirements.

Solution

In Bentley applications the function to embed fonts is automatic. This means that every custom font you have installed and used in your project will be seen on PDFs, regardless of fonts installed on the viewers' machine.

Just to be sure, you can test this on your own. You will need two machines that don't have a special font installed.

1. Download an unpopular font and use it to place text in OpenBuildings Designer (the example below shows text on a sheet).

2. Uncheck the "Rasterized" option and create a PDF.

3. See that the font is visible and the PDF is not an image but a vector. That means you can select particular letters, copy them to clipboard and paste into documents.

4. Open this PDF on the other machine where this particular font is not installed.

5. See that the font hasn't changed and it's still in vector mode, meaning you can still treat it as standard text.
