Import Icon(s) function allows you to import custom icons from ICO files to be used for your custom tools. You may find that the imported icon is not displaying or resolution is too low. Changing the toolbar sizes in the Preferences does not fix the issue.

Solution

  1. You should import your custom ICO file to any of the DGNLIB file folder locations defined in OpenBuildings Designer Configuration (e.g., MS_GUIDGNLIBLIST and MS_PERSONALDGNLIB). Importing ICO to an active DGN instead of a DGNLIB may cause the imported icon to not display.

  2. Make sure that you have proper ICO pixel sizes. OpenBuildings Designer delivered icons has the following pixel (px) sizes:

Here, I am using free software GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP) to open and create custom ICO files. Your ICO image setup should be similar to the image below:

A stock image is inserted to GIMP and rescaled to 96 x 96 px image. The layer is then duplicated and rescaled to the mentioned pixel sizes. Export the created image as Microsoft Windows Icon. To ensure you have the proper image properties, you can export any of the delivered ICO files from OpenBuildings Designer Resources and use that as a template.

Import the created icon to your DGNLIB file and assign it to your custom tool.
