What is the best solution to continue working on models that were created in Bentley Architecture XM using the 2D/3D choice seed files after upgrading to AECOsim Building Designer?
Many models are still in use that were created in Bentley Architecture XM, but now it appears that the plan models cannot be modified.
Basically, in AECOsim Building Designer, the plan will never be linked to the 3D model like it was in XM using the 2D/3D choice. The best alternative, if the user must use AECOsim, is to create a new 2D sheet model within the 3D model and reference merge the existing plan model into it. You will need AECOsim or Bentley Architecture to do this since if it is merged in MicroStation you will get a dependency error and you will not be able to reference merge or manipulate any of the elements in the file unless you used the Keyin, TFREMOVE, first.
After it is merged into a 2D sheet in AECOsim, you can only use basic MicroStation tools on the elements to manipulate them. There are no Architecture tools available in 2D. The user would need to use "Fence Stretch" to move walls so that the walls will stretch and will not need to be cleaned up. If a new wall is needed the user will have to copy an existing one and move it into place and then stretch it to fit. If a new door is needed they will also need to copy an existing door to its new location and manually break the existing wall using the "Fence Clip Delete" tool to cut the opening.
This is the best solution for continuing to model in files created in Bentley Architecture XM if you must upgrade to AECOsim.
