Can I reference a section or elevation of my 3D model to a 2D sheet model and have it displayed in a rendered mode?
The best way to achieve a rendered section or elevation which could be referenced to a sheet model is to create it as a section or elevation drawing view first. Then open the drawing view model, not the sheet, and select the small icon at the top of the window view called "Display Style List". This is where you want to select "Illustration" or other display style that you will want added to the Reference Presentation. Check on "Usable for Clip Volumes" setting so it will get added to the Set Reference Presentation dialog box. Close this dialog and then right click on any element in the drawing model and select "Set Reference Presentation". Click the "Forward Drawing" arrow in the the Clip Volume Settings. You should now see Illustation - Shadows to select in the list. Then OK. The drawing model should now be in a rendered Illustration - Shadows display.
From here, you can reference this drawing model to any 2D sheet model and it will remain rendered and also updated with any modifications from the 3D model.
Another method of creating a Clip Mask Volume of a rendered model won't work when referencing it as a saved view into a sheet model. What does work is to create a Clip Volume instead of Clip Mask in a Saved View and reference it to the sheet, but this is not the preferred method
