Chiller maximum capacity

HI,

I am working on a project which is an office refurbishment and I need to introduce the fixed chiller maximum capacity to 2 kW. I found that this can be done in Simulator - Plant Data - Chillers but no matter how I alter the chiller output, the results of the cooling load (Heat Gain Simulation, Simulation results, CIBSE Gain  ) remain unchanged.

Is there any way of seeing the impact of the chiller output on the cooling loads?

Thank you!

Mina.

  • Hi Cosmina, you would firstly need to make sure that the Chiller you have specified is actually being used in your HVAC data (i.e. under Simulator>HVAC data>Plant Equipment). It is important to note that no steady state Design Database calculations such as CIBSE Gain use this Simulator HVAC data, so those results will not be affected. You would only see the impact of this in Simulations where there is an option to have "HVAC equipment ON" - e.g. Summer Design Year, Frequency, etc. The Heat Gain simulation will not be affected by the HVAC. (The results of this simulation would usually be used at an earlier design stage as a basis of sizing your HVAC's cooling requirement).

If all of the above is in order it is possible that there is little load on the Chiller, so setting the maximum capacity is having no affect. I would really need to see the project to be certain however. If you wish me to take a look at it then please let me know.
