I am having difficulties auto defining rooms the design database.
After following the tutorial video, I have set up the layers on the dxf as walls, partitions, doors and glazing as instructed. The layers are highlighted as you would expect them to be. However when I attempt to autodefine a room, all I get is the above message.
I understand that the most common reason for seeing this error message is that there is a gap somewhen in the space you are trying to autodefine, so I selected a room that was partition walls only and even removed the door for good measure, then polylined the inside wall line, tracing the existing dxf. After checking it was sealed, I ran the autodefine again and still got the same message.
Are there any other reasons why this message should be displayed? I am struggling to understand why a room made of only 4 walls could be too complex to define?
Thanks in advance
Hi Jonathan.Room outlines should be completely enclosed - the software doesn't consider internal doors, and they should be omitted. This document contains some information on defining rooms.Regards

Hi Duncan
Many thanks for your response. As far as I can tell, the above room is completly sealed, but I an still getting the same message. I do not see how it is any different from the self contained rooms highlighted on the document you have linked. Are there other reasons for this error message, or is it deifinate that a gap exists somewhere?
I'm not sure which room you are talking about? Can you take a screen grab of the room and highlight it for me?Thanks,
Apologies
I was referring to the room with the red circle. I have also attempted to define the room with the black circle with the same results.

If you examine the image on the left, the software can't pathfind across these joints. They are considered to be breaks in the outline. The image on the right shows how the drawing should look to be automatically defined. You can click on the image to enlarge it.
