    Installing CIBSE weather data

      Product(s): CIBSE Weather Data
      Version(s): V8i (Version 26)
      Environment: N/A
      Area: N/A
      Subarea: N/A

    Overview

Most of the Design Simulation calculations will run with Meteonorm weather data. In some instances it is advisable to use CIBSE weather data. This data can be purchased from CIBSE (see here) and installed into Bentley Hevacomp.

Energy year data can be created with Meteonorm or CIBSE data.
Summer design year can only be created with CIBSE data.

Please note that only 2006 weather data is approved by DCLG for use in PartL Level 5 Simulations.

From the CIBSE web site, these two sets of weather data only are compatible with Bentley Hevacomp.

    Method

    Installing the weather data

Once the weather data is purchased and downloaded, the weather data must be installed into the Bentley Hevacomp data folder.

For Hevacomp v26, this is specified during installation. By default this is:

    C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Hevacomp V8i\Hevacomp

Within the data folder, locate the Weather Data folder, and then the CIBSE folder. Unzip your CIBSE weather data (or copy, whichever is relevant) into this folder.

    FUTURE WEATHER DATA

Bentley Hevacomp supports CIBSE's Future Weather Data.

This can be purchased and downloaded from the CIBSE website. Please read this note from CIBSE regarding the various formats that are available:

“The .dsy and .try are old formats that were originally released when the weather files were first produced in 2002. They are just text files that contain the data in columns. To our knowledge there is not much demand for the formats, they were produced more as a "legacy", just in case someone did still use them. The London DSYs were produced previous to this release and the developers decided not produce a .dsy. If all the files had been developed by the same researchers at the same time, there would be consistency. But they have been developed at different stages, due to the current demands of the industry. “

With regards to this note, Bentley Hevacomp recommend
you use the .CSV version of the weather data files.

Once you have downloaded your Future Weather Data files, they should be installed as follows:

1]  Use these links to download the Energy Year and Summer Year index files. These files contain Current DSY and TRY indexes and future .CSV indexes. Despite the index's containing full lists of weather locations you will only be able to use the locations your have purchased from CIBSE.

You will need to be logged in to download these files.

    2] Locate C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Hevacomp V8i\Hevacomp\Weather Data\

Copy the downloaded eweather.ndx and sweather.ndx files into this location.

    3] Locate  C:\ProgramData\Bentley\Hevacomp V8i\Hevacomp\Weather Data\CIBSE\

Unzip (or copy) your .CSV weather data files into this location

Please see this article for guidance on how to use this weather data in Hevacomp Simulator.
