DXF Import Issues - Drawing is too large error

      Product(s): Hevacomp Mechanical Design
      Version(s): V8i (N/A)
      Environment: N/A
      Area: N/A
      Subarea: N/A

    Overview

This document details what to do should you encounter the following "Drawing is too large" message, when importing your DXF background into a Design Database project.

This error occurs when the X and/or Y dimension of the DXF exceeds a million scale units.

    This usually indicates that:

    • The extents of the DXF are too vast
    • The DXF is overly detailed
    • Incorrect units/scale has been selected

    Method

To avoid this error please ensure the following:

    • Import the DXF into Hevacomp using the correct units. The software will automatically detect the units used in your DXF so we would strongly advise leaving this as default, in most cases. Please note that your DXF background may appear inverted if incorrect units are selected - see here for further information.

    • Open the DXF in your CAD software and zoom to view the full extents of the DXF. Ensure that there are no objects placed a large distance away from the building plan.
    • Simplify the DXF drawing by deleting any unnecessary items - hatching in particular. Grid lines and furniture can also be removed
    • Ensure that no externally referenced drawings are being used within the DXF.

Save the updated DXF. It should now import with no problems.
