Overview

You may wish to use a standard set of Fabric data across various Design Database projects.

Ensure that Design Database is completely closed before copying files into project folders

Method 1 - Using a Template project

A template project can be set up in the following way.

Start a new Design Database project in a uniquely identifiable project folder
(for e.g. C:\Hevacomp Projects\DDB Template)
Enter the data for your special fabric constructions, window data and fin data only. Do not enter CAD Input, load DXF files or enter any room data
Exit Design Database

To create a project using your standard data use Windows Explorer or My Computer to create a new project folder with your naming convention (for e.g. C:\Hevacomp Projects\14-12-06 Sheffield\) and then copy all of the files from the template project folder into the new project folder.

Start Design Database and load the new project. The fabric data from the template folder will be extant.

Method 2 - Using existing Fabric data to create a template project

You can use data from an existing project to help create a template project.

Start a new Design Database project in a uniquely identifiable project folder
(for e.g. C:\Hevacomp Projects\DDB Template)
Exit Design Database
Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the existing project that contains the Fabric data you require.
From the existing project copy all of the following files into your template project folder.

LTABS	CEILINGS	EFLOORS	FINS
FLOORS	GFLOORS	GLAZING	INTERNAL.S
	ROOFS	WALLS

The template project will now contain your preferred Fabric data.

Method 3 - Updating an existing project

If you have a current project that requires your common set of Fabric data then the above files can be copied from the template project into your current project.

Exit Design Database
Back up your current project
Use Windows Explorer to navigate to the current project.
Copy all of the listed files from the Template project into the current project

You current project will now contain the template fabric data.

Overview

When creating Design Database projects, it can become inconvenient to generate a personalised construction database for each new project. If the user has standard set of fabric constructions that will be used through many projects, it may be prudent to set up a template project for Design Database.

Method

To set up a template project you should start a new Design Database project in a specific folder, for example, C:\Hevacomp Projects\DDB Template\ and then enter all of your fabric constructions, special window types or fin data into this project. Do not do anything else to this project, do not add a floor, or any room data, etc, just leave it as it is with only the Fabric data modified. Exit DDB. Your template project is now set up.

When you wish to start a new project, using Windows Explorer or My Computer, navigate to your project folders, and create a new folder using your naming convention, for example: C:\Hevacomp Projects\14-12-06 Sheffield Office\ and then copy all of the files from your Template folder into this folder.

Now start DDB and navigate to your new project folder, you will be able to open this blank project and your standard fabric constructions will be extant.

If you have an existing project with your special constructions in place, and have already started your new project without using the above method, you may wish to copy the fabric data from the original project into your new project. This method also works for copying existing fabric data into a template project.

To copy fabric data into an existing project, you must copy a number of files. These files are detailed below

Notes

Ensure you have a back up of your project before copying files into or out of your project folder
Ensure you use the WindowsTM COPY, and not MOVE, function when transferring files
You must copy all of the files mentioned in Method 2. Failure to do so could corrupt your project
