What Are The Lighting Control - Daylight Factors For In Room Data

    Document Information

    Document Type: FAQ

    Product(s): Hevacomp Mechanical Designer

    Version(s): All

Original Author: Bentley Technical Support Group

    Overview

In the Room Data section of CAD Input there is now options for Lighting control using Daylight factors. The Lighting control can be ‘No control' ‘On/Off' or ‘Dimmers'. These controls will not affect any of the standard calculations or PartL, they are only used for the Energy calculations within the Dynamic Simulation software.

    Method

    How they work

If the ‘On/Off' or ‘Dimmers' options are selected then Dynamic simulation will consider switching or dimming a percentage of the lighting load for that room when performing its calculation. The percentage is controlled by the Daylight factors entered in the six boxes. The boxes should be filled in from top left to bottom right.

    What is a Daylight factor

A daylight factor is a percentage of daylight within the room. You first need to establish what daylight factors you wish to use within your room. You may wish to use the Nimbus link from Design database to establish your required levels.

    Examples:

    1. If you enter a value of 3% in box 1 of the Daylight factors the Simulation program will assume that 100% of the lighting will be switched if the daylight level within the room exceeds 3%.

    2. If you entered 3% in the first box and 5% in the second box then Simulation would assume that 50% of the lighting would be switched if the daylight level exceeds 3% and the other 50% would switch if the daylight level exceeded 5%.

These calculations occur on an hourly basis in the Simulation calcs.
