Overview

DXF files should all be created with the same scale, origin and overall extents.

Method

Design Database uses DXF files as the background image for your project. When imported, the origin point and extent of the DXF files are considered when being placed into the Design Database world space.

If the origin point is different on DXF files, or the extents of the DXF files differ too greatly, then the program cannot position the backgrounds correctly.

In the examples below the extents of the drawing are shown as in red, and the origin indicated by a red cross.

The program would scale the rooms correctly for these drawings, but the location in the Design Database world space would be misaligned across the floors.

To ensure your DXF files line up follow this checklist; Always ensure that DXF files are created:

from model space, and not a view port

with the same scale units

with extents that match

with matching model space origin points

When DXF files are used in your Design Database project, it is important to ensure the scale, origin and overall extents are set correctly with each drawing.

Design Database uses DXF files as the background image for your project. When loaded in, the origin point and extent of the DXF files are considered when being placed into the Design Database world space.

Overview

Design Database uses DXF files as the background for your project. When they are loaded into the program, the origin point and the extents of the DXF files are considered when they are being placed into the world space.

If the origin point is different on the DXF files, or extents off the DXF differ too greatly then the program can have difficulty positioning the DXF file.

Method

In the example below, the extents of the drawing are shown as a black surround, the origin with a black X. The program would still scale the drawings correctly - your rooms would be the correct size - but the position of the DXF would be offset from the first one.. This would misalign your floor.

Example 1

Similarly in example 2, the position of the two origin points would stop your floors lining up correctly.

Example 2

Notes

Similarly in example 2, the position of the two origin points would stop your floors lining up correctly.

Notes

Always ensure you create DXF files with the same scale units

Always ensure that the extents of the various drawings (roof and floor) match

Always ensure that the origin points of your DXF drawings match.
