Within Nimbus there are many manufacturers luminaires. Most of these luminaires have polar curves based on being ceiling mounted. Some of these however can be wall mounted as well as ceiling mounted. There are some luminaries within Nimbus that can only be wall mounted and as such their polar curve data reflects this.
Example of polar curves for both types are shown below:
Ceiling Mounted Wall Mounted
As you can see the polar curve for the wall mounted luminaire is already aimed, taking account for the fact that it will be positioned against a wall with the light being thrown outwards. This type of luminaire can be added into a room and only needs to be positioned near the wall and rotated to obtain the correct orientation for the wall it is mounted on. This can be done from the Luminaire > Change menu item.
The polar curve for the ceiling mounted is aimed in the downward direction and also symmetrical. This luminaire can be either ceiling mounted or wall mounted. For ceiling mounting, the luminaire can just be added as it is. To wall mount the luminaire it must be positioned in the room, and then aimed across the room using the Luminaire/Change menu.Below is an example of 3 ceiling luminaires mounted on different walls within a room and the values that were entered to aim them across the room. It is advised that when wall mounting luminaires they should be positioned slightly inside the room rather than directly on the wall. The co-ordinates of X=0 and Y=0 is the top left corner of the room.
