Run Time Error 75 after applying Window 10 update

      Product(s): Bentley Hevacomp
      Version(s): V8i (N/A)
      Environment: N/A
      Area: N/A
      Subarea: N/A

    Overview

After applying the Windows 10 update, and upon selecting a project to open, the file selection screen becomes cross hatched and a Run Time Error 75 appears.

    Method

The Error 75 occurs because Windows has deemed that you do not have ownership of the Hevacomp Projects folder. While this folder may not contain projects, it does contain control information for the software. As you don't have control of the folder, you cannot update it.

    • Locate the Hevacomp Projects folder on your C drive

    • Rename this Hevacomp Projects Old (you may need admin permissions to do this) and then create a new Hevacomp Projects folder
    • Within the new Hevacomp Projects folder, create a Last Used folder

    • Copy the files from the Hevacomp Project Old folder into the Hevacomp Project folder - you may see more or less files than this

    • Ensure that your copied files are not set to Read Only. Select all the files, right click the selection and choose properties. If the read only box is ticked, then untick and ensure all files are changed.

    • Copy the files from Hevacomp Projects Old/Last Used into Hevacomp Projects/Last Used  - you may see more or less files than this, and ensure the Read Only flag is not selected for these files, too.

With these steps complete, you should have recreated the Hevacomp Projects folder, but with ownership assigned to your user account. The software should function correctly now.
