    Overview

Hevacomp software uses a third party program called Crystal Reports to provide reporting functionality in their software. We have found on occasion that Crystal Reports can stop functioning correctly after the installation of other software, or sometimes after a Microsoft update. This can manifest itself as an error that states ‘Unable to initialise' or as your report being displayed as a blank screen. If this is the case, then it will be necessary to update your Crystal Reports installation.

    Method

Before installation, we need to prepare the machine:

    1. If this is a Windows Vista machine, then ensure that UAC is turned off. For Windows 7 and Windows 8 machines, ensure that UAC is turned all the way down. You will need to reboot the machine to ensure these settings take effect.
    2. Log onto your computer using a local administrator password.
    3. From the Windows Control Panel, go into Programs/features (or Add/remove programs for Windows XP). Locate the Crystal Reports installation ("Crystal Reports Version 9 by Hevacomp Ltd") and remove this from the system.
    4. Reboot the machine, ensuring you log on with a local administrator password.
    5. We now need to install Crystal Reports

If you have a previous CD from Hevacomp (v23 or v24) you can use the Crystal Reports installer from the Windows/CR9 folder.

If not, then download the installer from our ftp site*
    6. Run the Setup.Exe program from either the old Hevacomp CD or from the unzipped file from the ftp site. If you are asked for an extract path during the installation, then just click next. The installer only places objects in system locations, so this can be ignored.
    7. Once complete run up the software and check everything now works ok.
    8. You can now reboot back into your normal log in and reset your UAC settings if required.

This document contains a number of advanced techniques.
You may wish to consult with your IT department for assistance.
