    Overview

Bentley Hevacomp software uses a third party program called Crystal Reports to provide reporting functionality in the software.

It has been found on occasion that Crystal Reports can stop functioning correctly after the installation of other software, or sometimes after a Microsoft update. This can manifest itself as an error that states ‘Unable to initialize...' or as the report will be displayed as a blank screen. If this is the case, then it will be necessary to update your Crystal Reports installation. We have two methods available for this. Work through Method 1 first of all. If this fails, then consider Method 2.

This document uses advanced techniques and elevated permissions. You may need the assistance of your own IT to carry these procedures out.

Before considering these methods, ensure that you are logged into your computer with an administrator account and have UAC set accordingly.

To set UAC and prepare for these methods, do the following:

For Windows XP - UAC is not considered with Windows XP

For Windows Vista - Ensure that UAC is turned OFF

For Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 - Ensure that UAC is turned all the way down

You may need to reboot your computer after changing these settings. Please do so if asked and ensure you log on to your computer with an administrator account.

Download the Crystal Reports stand alone installer:

Download the Crystal Reports installer from here and unzip it into a suitable folder.

Note that you will need to be logged into your Bentley Systems account to download this item.

    Method 1

    1. From the Windows Control Panel:

For Windows XP select Add/Remote programs

For Windows Vista, 7, 8 and 8.1 select Programs and Features

    2. Locate "Crystal Reports Version 9 By Hevacomp Ltd" and choose to remove this from your system.

If this fails to remove the program completely then please skip down to Method 2

    3. Reboot/restart the computer and log in using an administrator account.

    4. From the folder you previously unzipped Crystal Reports to, Right click SETUP.EXE and select Run as Administrator to start the installation procedure.

If at any point you are asked to provide an installation location or any user feedback then just click 'Next' - the installation location is not used with this installer.

    5. Once the installation is complete you should be able to run up the software and access reports correctly.

    6. If you wish, you can now reset your UAC settings and log back in under your normal user account.

    Method 2

If for any reason the above methods fail and you are left with "Crystal Reports Version 9 By Hevacomp Ltd" in your add/remove programs list, then please do the following:

    1. Push CTRL - ALT - DEL and bring up the Task Manager.
    2. In the process list, locate the "Windows Installer" and end the process.

    3. Close Task Manager

    4. From the folder you previously unzipped Crystal Reports to, Right click SETUP.EXE and select Run as Administrator. As Crystal Reports still exists in your add/remove programs list, this will make the installer run in UNINSTALL mode and should clear up the installation.

    5. Reboot/restart the computer and log in using an administrator account.

    6. From the folder you previously unzipped Crystal Reports to, Right click SETUP.EXE and select Run as Administrator to start the installation procedure.

If at any point you are asked to provide an installation location or any user feedback then just click 'Next' - the installation location is not used with this installer.

    7. Once the installation is complete you should be able to run up the software and access reports correctly.

    8. If you wish, you can now reset your UAC settings and log back in under your normal user account.
