Why Has Crystal Reports Stopped Functioning [TN]

    Document Information

    Document Type: Technote

    Product(s): Hevacomp Mechanical Designer

    Version(s): All

    Overview

Hevacomp software uses a third party program called Crystal Reports to provide reporting functionality in their software. We have found on occasion that Crystal Reports can stop functioning correctly after the installation of other software, or sometimes after a MicrosoftTM update. This can manifest itself as an error that states ‘Unable to initialise' or as your report being displayed as a blank screen. If this is the case, then it will be necessary to update your Crystal Reports installation. To do this, follow the information below.

    Method

This method should be applied to each individual machine that is exhibiting this problem. This should not be applied to the server machine.

    • Locate the Hevacomp Design Software CD that matches your installation version
    • Reboot your computer and log back onto it as a full administrator[1]
    • Go to your computers Control Panel, and run the Add/Remove program utility
    • Remove any and all instances of "Crystal Reports Version 9 by Hevacomp Ltd" and also any other references to Crystal Reports, unless they state a later version than 9.
    • Reboot the computer and log back onto it as a full administrator[1]
    • Using the Hevacomp Design Software CD, navigate to the Windows folder, and from there, into the CR9 folder. You will find a setup.exe file in this folder. Double click this to run the installation.
    • Once the installation is complete - you can select all the default options that are offered during the installation - reboot the computer and log back onto it as a full administrator[1]
    • Run the software. You should be able to view your reports correctly.
    • Reboot the machine and log back onto it using the normal account

    Notes

    • This is an advanced maintenance technique. If you are unsure of how to get a full administrator log in or how to remove programs from your computer, then please contact your IT department for assistance.
    • If you are installing or removing software from a computer, you should always do this from an administrator account.
    • If during the installation a 1608 or 1628 is generated, then please consult Why Does My Installation Generate A 1608 Or 1628 Error

[1] This technique may not work on a machine that only has user access. Please ensure you have full administrator access before attempting these techniques.
