Calculated Alpha values for your Actual building design could be substantially higher than for the Notional building design.
Alpha values are not set directly in Bentley Hevacomp's PartL program, but are determined by the SBEM calculation engine using the information provided for thermal bridging on the "Misc." tab in the PartL program.
For the Actual building; the Alpha Value is the average heat transfer co-efficient due to thermal bridging.
The notional building has a set alpha value of 10%, which is considered along with a constructions U-value.
For queries regarding Alpha value calculations, you should consult with your accreditation Scheme Provider.
