Calculated Alpha values for your Actual building design could be substantially higher than for the Notional building design.
Alpha values are not set directly in Bentley Hevacomp's PartL program, but are determined by the SBEM calculation engine.
The alpha value is the percentage of the buildings equivalent average heat transfer coefficient, due to thermal bridging. For the Actual building; this is the average heat transfer co-efficient due to thermal bridging. This is based entirely on the information provided for thermal bridging on the "Misc." tab in the PartL program, whether user defined or default figures are used. The notional building has a set alpha value of 10%, which is considered along with a constructions U-value.
For queries regarding Alpha value calculations, you should consult with your accreditation Scheme Provider.
