Placing Non-rectangular Base Buildings in OpenComms Designer

OpenComms Designer by default allows a user to place any rectangular shaped building using the BaseBuilding (Place) method from Command Manager:

If a ‘non-rectanglular’ shaped building is required, there is a change in the GSA schema that must be done before that can be accomplished. Follow these steps to allow your users to be able to place non-rectangular shaped buildings:

Open the GSA schema for this project and click the + sign in front of Features. Then scroll down the list of features to select the BASEBUILDING_Collection feature. Right click on BASEBUILDING_Collection > Insert > Polygon Placement Collection Metadata:

In the resulting dialog, use the dropdown arrow under Method Type: to select Place Polygon, and then click OK:

Click Yes in the Updating Methods and Operations dialog and then OK to Update the Command Manager list:

Click the minus sign in front of Features (under All Users) to collapse the Features category, and then click the + sign in front of Methods. Highlight the BASEBUILDING_Collection method and then select the Place tab on the right hand window of the GSA:

Click the check box to ‘Include in Command Manager menu’ (as shown above.)

Click the Edit tab in the right-hand window to also check this option to ‘Include in Command Manager menu’:

(By including the Edit method in the Command Manager menu, it will be easy to edit any existing buildings placed with this method.)

Save and Export the schema and then restart OpenComms Designer. Now the user should be able to select the BASEBUILDING (Place) method from the Command Manager dialog. After defining the starting point for the polygon, the user can click point by point to place any shape polygon desired for the BASEBUILDING:
