Is it possible to subdivide one object several times using different planes for each divide?

I have several objects that need to be subdivided multiple times using different planes (ex. a slab that has 4 pours but aren't parallel/perpendicular).  Is this possible?

I can't subdivide in original software because we get these files from a sub-contractor, but we need to synchronize throughout the design process (if I subdivide when they resubmit revisions, each new subdivision will have a new GUID and won't sync).

  • Hi Dennis,

You may use the Free Hand mode in the subdivision.

    To subdivide an element:

    1. Select the cutting plane axis: Local, World or Layers Up. The axis can then be further modified by use of the Manipulate or Snap to Face option
    2. Select Create subdivision polylines from the context menu
    3. Draw the subdivision line, starting from one edge of the element bounding box (shown in blue) to the other

    Please be noted:

    1. There is no way to create exact 3D subdivisions using Free Hand type. If you wish exact lines, you should subdivide in the original modelling software (eg. Revit)
    2. There is no way to edit a freehand polyline - click Remove Selected Polyline and start again.
    3. Do you use SYNCHRO Modeler? It has much better 3D manipulation capabilities and is designed specifically for the purpose of converting design models to construction models, which will be BIM data-driven and with much higher accuracy. It can help with the issue.

    Thanks!
