Move manipulator to a specific location on the model.

Hi, the user wants to change the origin of the axis to a specific location on the model. What should he do?

Thanks,

HoSang

  • Hi,

Assuming that the user wants to animate the rotation of this arm of the tower here is what can be done:

    1. Link the resource corresponding to the arm with the respective task.
    2. Add a 3D path in the '3D Path' window (by right click and then 'Create'). Then link the 3D path to the task and the resource in the previous step.
    3. In the 3D Path Properties dialogue, first click on 'Capture Keyframe'. Select any one of the two Keyframes at the two ends of the task. Then click on 'Edit 3D Path'.
    4. The manipulators will appear somewhere at a centroidal position and not the correct axis of rotation. Press 'ctrl' and drag the manipulator and place it at the correct position, then again 'Capture Keyframe'.
    5. 'Copy Key' and paste it to the other Keyframe. You will now have the Manipulator at the correct axial position.

  • Hi All,

Just want to add one line to Tathagata Steps: (bold line)

Assuming that the user wants to animate the rotation of this arm of the tower here is what can be done:

    • Link the resource corresponding to the arm with the respective task.
    • Add a 3D path in the '3D Path' window (by right click and then 'Create'). Then link the 3D path to the task and the resource in the previous step.
    • In the 3D Path Properties dialogue, first click on 'Capture Keyframe'.

Now Change the 3D Path Aligment from Orginal Position to Custom (before move the Central Position)

Select any one of the two Keyframes at the two ends of the task. Then click on 'Edit 3D Path'.

    • The manipulators will appear somewhere at a centroidal position and not the correct axis of rotation. Press 'ctrl' and drag the manipulator and place it at the correct position, then again 'Capture Keyframe'.
    • 'Copy Key' and paste it to the other Keyframe. You will now have the Manipulator at the correct axial position.

    Small but important step.
