Upgrading a cloud-hosted 4D project from 2021 (v6.4) to 2022 (v6.5)

If you have an existing cloud-hosted project which you have been accessing from 4D Pro, OpenViewer, or Scheduler version 6.4 (2021) and are ready to upgrade to version 6.5 (2022.1), follow the directions below. Please read all directions before installing version v6.5.

NOTE: These instructions are only for upgrading existing 4D iModels in Control. If you are upgrading from SWP (6.2 or older), upgrading a private project .sp from any version, or starting a new project, follow the directions in Setting up a 4D Project in SYNCHRO Control and simply leave the version as 6.5 (default).

RECOMMENDED:  Before installing SYNCHRO 4D Pro 6.5, a user with admin right should consider downloading a copy of the .sp in 6.4 as a backup in case it is needed and for future reference. Visit the 4D cloud collaboration project on SYNCHRO Control, go to Administration > Manage iModel. On the desired iModel, choose "..." then select Download .sp file, to download a copy of .sp file and store it in a directory that you can find later.

Alternatively, when the Download .sp file is not available for any reason, a user with admin rights can also save a copy of the .sp by opening this SYNCHRO Control project in SYNCHRO 4D Pro version 6.4 and then select File > Save As to save a local copy of the project as an .SP file, in case user wants an .sp file in 6.4 as a backup.

After download or backup of the .sp file in v6.4 is done and you have your needed backup in 6.4, then 4D Pro version 6.5 may be installed. All users who will be accessing the cloud-hosted project from 4D Pro, OpenViewer, or Scheduler must be using the same version as set in SYNCHRO Control, so only upgrade the project version when all users are able to upgrade their SYNCHRO desktop products to the new version as well.

The above instructions also apply to users who want to upgrade from v6.3 to v6.5. Before installing SYNCHRO 4D Pro 6.5, a user with admin right should consider downloading a copy of the .sp in 6.3 as a backup in case it is needed and for future reference. Visit the 4D cloud collaboration project on SYNCHRO Control, go to Administration > Manage iModel. On the desired iModel, choose "..." then select Download .sp file, to download a copy of .sp file and store it in a directory that you can find later.

These steps must be performed by a user with administrative privileges for the project

  1. Ensure that all users stop work on the project while the following process is performed. Users may view the project in SYNCHRO Control, but they should not submit any changes in SYNCHRO 4D Pro, SYNCHRO Field, OpenViewer or Scheduler
  2. Prior to upgrading from 6.4 to 6.5, it is always best practice to have the user with admin right to Download .sp file in v6.4. This is to make sure you have a local backup of .sp in 6.4 prior to the upgrade.
    1. NOTE: If you are upgrading from 6.3 to 6.5, it is recommended to have the user with admin right to Download the .sp file in v6.3 as a backup.
  3. After an .sp file as backup is obtained, you can proceed with the upgrade steps.
  4. Go to SYNCHRO Control, navigate to Administration > Manage iModel
  5. Select the menu ("...") for the 4D iModel and choose Edit
  6. Change the SYNCHRO Pro Version to 6.5 (from 6.4)
    1. NOTE: If you are upgrading from 6.3 to 6.5, you will need to perform the upgrade from 6.3 to 6.4 first, then perform the upgrade from 6.4 to 6.5.
    2. Confirm upgrade
  7. Press Upgrade
  8. The service then will start the upgrade process (takes either seconds or a few minutes depending on the size of the project). Once it is completed, you may open the project in SYNCHRO 4D Pro, Scheduler, OpenViewer v6.5.
  9. Inform all team members and instruct them to install SYNCHRO 4D Pro, OpenViewer or Scheduler version 6.5.
  10. You can now open the upgraded 4D Control project from SYNCHRO 4D Pro, OpenViewer or Scheduler version 6.5 and continue working and collaborating on your 4D cloud-hosted project through SYNCHRO Control.
