IFC export based on model tree from iModel

Hi,

Is there a possibility to export iModel to IFC and to keep the same structure as in iModel?

Just to illustrate: We have a Coordination model which is divided to Professions and then professions contain separate elements. How can I keep the same structure in IFC?

Thank you

David

  • Hi David,

Is this what you are looking for?

It we look at this model, it consists of different imports - maybe this corresponds to how your coordination model has different disciplines and they are separated by different models that have been imported into the iModel?

This could also work based on categories. The point here is that this would allow you to select say one of the models to view and then you define a saved view based on that filtering.

From a saved view, you would be able to generate the IFC. Select the saved view and click on the ...

This will bring up Export to IFC, and the IFC generated from here will be based only on the content in the saved view.

Let me know if this matches what you are trying to do.

  • Hi Tim,

    Thank you for your reply.

We have been using this "feature" and we had several issues with this. If we have a bigger project with a lot of professions, just creating those views can take some time. The website is sometimes unresponsive and the views appear with a delay. And recently we have been getting the following errors. (It would be nice if there would be a possibility to export separate IFC from the coordination model based on the attached references on one click)

To better illustrate my question. I was asking if there is a way to keep the project tree structure defined within the IFC. Something similar to what you had suggested above, but to keep the structure by profession and combine them to an aggregated IFC mode (Based on the coordination model). I found an illustration, that somehow defines what I had in mind below.

This might be achieved through IFC mapping, but to be honest I didn't get into this topic.

    Thank you

  • Hi David,

Thanks for the clarification. I've forwarded this to our dev to get an opinion on it.

But I don't know why you are getting the error you mention at the top. Can you please submit an SR here:

    https://apps.bentley.com/srmanager/ProductSupport

When you do, please include the URL of the project and please grant access to the project to tim.lawrence@bentley.com and please pass the SR on to my email address as well and we'll take a look.

    Thanks,

    Tim
