Above link shows that the local client for Itwin Synchronizer has an iModel Connector for VUE files but I don't see that as an option. tried adding one to see if it would prompt me but if just said need the correct connector.

VUE files are currently only supported in the Portal, not local Clients like the iTwin Synchronizer. N.B. the pair of green dots to determine what is supported with which workflow.

Thanks for the clarification. I thought the chart was saying the itwin synchronizer client could handle vue files.
Seems like an oversite in the table... it also lists this further down:
