Here you will find information needed to take the first step on your Digital Twin journey and that is how to get your engineering data into an iTwin. This support site will explain what is an iModel connector and how do i use them to populate my iTwin.
A digital twin is a digital representation of a physical asset, process or system, as well as the engineering information that allows us to understand and model its performance.
Typically, a digital twin can be continuously updated from multiple sources, including sensors and continuous surveying, to represent its near real-time status, working condition or position.
A digital twin enables users to visualize the asset, check status, perform analysis and generate insights in order to predict and optimize asset performance.
An iTwin is an infrastructure digital twin.
An iTwin incorporates different types of data repositories – including drawings, specifications, documents, analytical models, photos, reality meshes, IoT feeds, and enterprise resource and enterprise asset management data – into a living digital twin. iModel connectors helps to transform data from different engineering applications into an iTwin. There are different iModel connectors, that transforms specific engineering data in to unified Imodel format. Many iModel connectors can be associated with a single iModel and convert multiple engineering files in to one single iModel.
Existing modeling applications, whether from Bentley or other vendors, can contribute changes from digital engineering models to the iModel’s timeline of changes.
iModel connectors enable a wide range of both Bentley and third-party design applications to contribute to an iTwin. You can go to the Supported Applications and File Formats page to see all the current applications available. Check back often as we are always adding support for new applications. We understand that project to project and organization to organization different document management systems are used to store and access your engineering design files, because of this we support a number of different workflows for you to be able to sync your data to an iTwin. Please go to the Ways to sync your data to an iTwin page for more information and choose which workflows fits best for your project.
